Dear collectors and visitors of the Antique Gallery website searching for gifts, especially antique weapons, we present to you: 1940 Model Commander’s Shashka “Pidznamyanka”.
The hilt consists of a grip and a brass guard. The wooden black grip features inclined grooves. The upper collar of the grip has a stamped image of a five-pointed star. The head of the grip is oval and convex. The lower collar of the grip is shaped. The guard is formed by a protective arc that extends from the upper part and smoothly transitions into the crossguard. The end of the crossguard has a hole for the lanyard, slightly bent downwards and rounded. The arc is embellished with engraved floral patterns.
The blade is steel, nickel-plated, slightly curved, single-edged, with one broad and three narrow grooves.
The wooden scabbard is covered with black paint and lacquered (the original paint has some areas of loss). The brass fittings consist of a throat, a nut, and a tip. On the inner side of the throat, there is a hook, and on the nut, a ring. On the outer side of the throat, there is an image of the USSR coat of arms.
This shashka is a representation of the Soviet military’s emphasis on ceremonial and functional weaponry during the mid-20th century, reflecting both the artistry and practicality of the time.
