History:
The Military Engineering School in Saint-Etienne was founded in 1764 and during the Second Empire (1852-1870) trained officers for the French Corps of Engineers. The school had its own uniform and weapons, including swords.
Design:
The sword of an officer of the School of Military Engineering in Saint-Etienne had a straight blade with a three-edged blade. The handle was made with mother-of-pearl overlays and decorated with brass or silver details. The emblem of the school or symbols were often depicted on the ephesus.
Usage:
The sword was used for self-defense and ceremonial purposes. Officers wore it during parades, official events and at duels.
