The German Demag trench bayonet dagger has a rich history associated with the First World War. Deutsche Maschinenfabrik AG (DEMAG), founded in 1910 in Germany, specialized in the production of heavy machinery and military equipment. The Demag bayonet dagger was designed as a multifunctional tool for German soldiers, used in the trenches for a variety of tasks, from defense to household chores. It was often carried by infantry and engineer troops who worked in the trenches and on the front lines.
The blade of this bayonet dagger is made of high quality steel, which ensures its strength and durability. The handle consists of two stamped metal parts, fastened with four rivets: two of them are located closer to the crossguard and the other two closer to the hilt head. This ensures reliability and strength of the construction. The total length of the bayonet-kinjal is 270 mm. The length of the blade is 154 mm, width 22 mm at the base. The blade is a seven-pronged double-edged blade.
The standard T-slot in the head of the handle provides the ability to fit the knife to an 1898 Gewehr rifle.
Many of these bayonet daggers were engraved on the hilt and blade with the maker’s marks, indicating its authenticity and uniqueness. The use of Demag trench bayonet daggers continued for many years, and they became a symbol of German military skill and engineering. Today, these bayonet daggers are valuable collectors’ items that tell the story of the hard times of war and the heroism of the soldiers.
