Morion (Spanish: morrión, French: morion) — a European military helmet of the Renaissance era with a high crest and wide brims, firmly bent forward and backward.

The name of the helmet according to the “Spanish Dictionary” published by the Royal Spanish Academy, derives from morra — meaning “crown” or “top”.

The Morion probably appeared in Spain in the early 16th century. It was part of the armor set for foot soldiers in the armies of most European countries, and also in the “new formation” regiments of the Russian army of the 17th century. Later, it became part of the armor for the palace guards of European monarchs.
