The Hitlerjugend knife was part of the standard equipment of members of the National Socialist youth organization in Nazi Germany. It was introduced in 1933 as a symbol of loyalty and discipline for youth raised in the spirit of National Socialist ideology. Knives of this type usually had the motto “Blut und Ehre” (“Blood and Honor”) and were used both in everyday life and in ceremonies. This knife was worn by privates and candidates of the military organization “Hitler Youth” as a sign of distinction for academic success in the period 1933-1942.
The handle is steel, with black fluted plates, which are fastened with rivets. The head of the hilt is massive, in the shape of a bird’s head. On the front side of the hilt is attached a rhombic enamel shield with the image of a swastika on a red and white background.
The cross-bar is flat, with a drop-shaped end bent upwards. The cross-bar is one piece with the handle. The surface of the cross pin is nickel-plated.
Blade is straight, steel, single-blade, flat, polished. Length of the blade – 180 mm, width of the blade – 25 mm. Total length of the knife – 345 mm, length of the sheath – 255 mm.
Scabbard is metal, straight, painted.
The harness consists of a black leather strap riveted to the scabbard on one side, on the other side it has a clamp with a button to fix the hilt and a loop for a belt loop.
Such blades were not produced until 1933-1938.
