Dear Collectors and guests of the Antique Gallery site, looking for a gift, in particular Antique weapons, are invited to your attention: The Luftwaffe Dagger of 1935 in nickel silver manufacturer WKC type 1.

This early Luftwaffe Dagger has a very good patina. Its only drawback is that the scabbard have been restored (wood and leather).

The fasteners are made of hard nickel, which is a very early production of the Luftwaffe dagger. The top has inlaid brass medallions, and nickel material still remains between the swastika’s solar lines. The top itself demonstrates only modest use at the edges.

The crosspiece of the Dagger also has a good appearance, solid, in the form of three superimposed one-on-one long (stylized as bird wings) with edges bent towards the blade. At the intersection, on both sides, on the round medallions there is a reduced image of a swastika, similar to the one on the head.

The carved wooden handle has a barrel-shaped shape, covered with leather, which is in good condition. The leather is wrapped in double-brass wire.

The shell of the scabbard is straight throughout the plane, has the restoration of wood and skin, the skin has a greenish tint. The fastening of the scabbard has a deep patination. All of them are in good condition and are fastened with screws without heads.

The blade is a high-quality nickel-plated sample and is still in good condition. The reverse stamped trademark from 1935 to 41.

Historical background of the Luftwaffe Dagger model of 1935:

The standard Luftwaffe Dagger (first model 1935) was designed to be worn by all Air Force officers and officer candidates. It was distributed through the representative office of a company for the manufacture of cold weapons. After the creation of the 2nd model of Dagger in 1937, the first remained at the disposal of the junior command staff and other military pilots who wore one of the Air Force badges.

In early samples, metal parts of ephesus and scabbard devices were made of nickel silver with an anodized thin layer of silver of 1-2 microns, in subsequent samples, polished aluminum with anodized silver of 4-5 microns was used as the base, and the swastika anodized was anodized.

The suspension was made in the form of a chain of nickel (nickel silver) or aluminum rings, the length of the chain could vary. Temlyak 23 cm long from silver gray is intended only for pilots. The release of the Dagger was discontinued in December 1944.

The Dagger of the 1st Luftwaffe model, although it was a rather long weapon, was a shorter version of the previously used DLV officer Dagger . In 1935, Hitler opened the “secret” unit of the Luftwaffe to the world, challenging the Treaty of Versailles. The Luftwaffe became the third combat unit of the German Wehrmacht, and was led by Hermann Goering as commander-in-chief.

Initially, the new Fliegerdolch was worn only by Luftwaffe officers with summer status. Later, the rules were relaxed and other officers were allowed to wear a “summer dagger”. After 1937, officers had to wear only a performance Offizierdolch dagger or other specimen of the Luftwaffe Dagger .

The first model from that moment was worn by high-ranking unterofitzers, not offices. The first samples of early Fliegerdolche were designed using solid heavy nickel materials for attaching handles and knives. The top and cross were decorated with a gilded swastika. The cigar-shaped handle is made of wood and knives covered with rich Moroccan blue skin. A chain hanger with a carbine is attached to the sheaths. In models released after 1938, aluminum fittings. Late samples were made of nickel metal handles with fittings made of varnished steel. Blades were usually qualitatively covered with nickel.
