Historical Note on the Naval Cadet Sword Model 1940 USSR:

The 1940 model sword was mandated for cadets of naval schools to wear outside the school grounds at all times. From 1952, swords were only assigned to duty personnel, and by 1974, they were discontinued for them as well. From 1940 until the mid-1990s, swords were also worn by flag bearers during parades.
