Dear Collectors and visitors of the Antique Gallery website looking for a gift, especially Antique weapons, we present to you: Officer’s Dagger of the Czechoslovak Air Force, 1927 model.

Officer’s Dagger of the Czechoslovak Air Force, 1927 model – this is a true artifact from the interwar period that symbolizes the professionalism and prestige of the Czechoslovak Air Force. Made from high-quality materials and decorated with unique ornamental elements, this dagger will be a valuable exhibit in any collection of antique weapons and a source of pride for historical enthusiasts. ⚔️

Blade is steel, polished, double-edged, diamond-shaped in cross-section. At the tang there is a manufacturer’s mark WLASZLOVITS and a two-digit year, which likely indicates the date of manufacture – 36 (1936), probably corresponding to the original contract.

Hilt consists of the handle and crossguard. All hilt parts are brass, covered with a thin engraved pattern.

Handle is rectangular in section, made of a material resembling ivory, white in color. It consists of two plates joined together into a single block. The pommel is square, with an oval nut for attachment to the tang. The handle is assembled from several parts, soldered into a hollow block with gilded coating, securely fixed to the tang with an oval cap. The decoration includes geometric patterns.

Crossguard consists of two curved arcs, which are connected, with the lower arc being half the length of the upper one. At the intersection, there is a round medallion, with a rhombus relief image of the Lion from the lesser coat of arms of the Czechoslovak Republic. In the center of the intersection on the front side is a circle with the depiction of the Bohemian Lion in the rhombus.

Scabbard is made of steel and covered with dark brown leather. The leather, due to tanning, has a hard surface, although over time it may suffer damage. Reduction in size or wear of the leather is common. The upper mount for suspension and tip are decorated with geometric patterns, while the lower mount is simple and has fixed angular rings for straps. The fittings are made of gilded brass and include the throat, band, and tip, which also have geometric ornamentation.

Suspension consists of two brown leather straps with felt lining, attached to fixed angular rings on the scabbard. The buckles are oval, made of gilded brass with mother-of-pearl inlays.

Historical Reference:

Officer’s Dagger of the Czechoslovak Air Force, 1927 model is a significant artifact that reflects an important chapter in the history of this country. After the formation of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the newly created state actively developed its armed forces, particularly the air force, to ensure reliable defense during the interwar period.

The 1927 model dagger was designed specifically for officers of the Air Force, who played a key role in protecting the country’s airspace. The elegant design of the dagger combines Czech craftsmanship traditions with the modernist tendencies of the time. It was used during parades, ceremonies, and also symbolized officer honor and discipline.

This period was crucial for Czechoslovakia, which became one of the leaders in the aviation industry in Europe. The country’s air force was among the most developed and technically equipped in the region, and its officer corps distinguished itself for its high level of professionalism.

The 1927 dagger reflects the phase of growth and modernization of the Czechoslovak army, emphasizing the importance of aviation as a strategic direction in military affairs. The straight polished blade with a diamond cross-section, brass hilt with engraving, and dark brown steel scabbard — all these elements made the dagger not only a weapon but also a work of art.

Czechoslovakia, after World War I, became one of the new European states, established in October 1918. Although the majority of the population were Czechs and Slovaks, the country was multinational. During the interwar period, the Czechoslovak government created one of the most modern armies in Europe, paying special attention to armament and military traditions, particularly ceremonial daggers.

Until the Nazi occupation in 1939, daggers were worn by officers of the Air Force, as well as customs officers and State Forest workers at official events. After the occupation, military formations of the Protectorate continued to use daggers as symbols of authority, though they no longer had real power.

Wlaszovits is a Czech company founded in the late 19th century, specializing in the production of cold weapons, including daggers, knives, and other types of traditional weapons.

In the 1880s, Wlaszovits began producing its first cold weapon models, marking its presence in the market with innovative production techniques and unique design. The company developed rapidly, occupying an important place among the weapon suppliers in Czechoslovakia.

During World War II, Wlaszovits became an official supplier of cold weapons for the Czechoslovak armed forces, producing items for the Air Force and other military formations. The company gained a reputation as a reliable manufacturer, supplying high-quality daggers that became symbols of honor and service.

After the war, Wlaszovits underwent a period of transformation, focusing on producing not only military but also civilian weapons, including knives and other household items. Changes in the political climate of Czechoslovakia, as well as the loss of its traditional market, led to a decrease in production volumes, but Wlaszovits managed to maintain its reputation thanks to the quality of its products.
