Historical Background:

The French National Guard was created during the Revolution of 1789 as part of the new order that replaced the old monarchical regime. After numerous reforms and changes in different periods, the National Guard was reorganized during the reign of Napoleon I, and then again during the July Monarchy and the First Republic.
The National Guard officer’s sword made in Solingen was a reflection of the high standards of German edged weapons production.
Solingen, a city with a rich history in edged weapons production, was an important center of knife and sword making for all of Europe, including France.
Located in Germany, Solingen was famous for its tradition and craftsmanship, ensuring the highest quality of its products, which made them valuable artifacts for military collections.
The National Guard officer’s sword symbolized not only military discipline, but also political stability and prestige.
It was also part of an officer’s ceremonial uniform and was used during official ceremonies and parades.
