Buy the Officer’s Dagger of the Yugoslav Army model 1939 in Ukraine, Kyiv.
Original officer’s army dagger of the infantry model 1939, used in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia during 1939–1941 and belonging to the era of World War II.
The blade is steel, nickel-plated, straight, double-edged. On the ricasso on the front side — the Yugoslav two-headed eagle, on the reverse — a cross-shaped mark OFICIRSKA ZADRUGA with a miniature eagle under the crown.
The hilt consists of a leather grip of spindle shape, a brass pommel in the form of a stylized crown, and a brass crossguard with teardrop ends bent in opposite directions. The ferrule with a narrow band is combined with the crossguard into a single whole.
The scabbard is made of copper, with a stamped ornament in the form of oak leaves. The brass fittings include a wide throat, a band with rings, and a tip. The throat and band are decorated with relief oak leaves, and the throat on the front side is secured with an eagle.
Historical note:
In 1939, under King Peter II, a strict regulation for wearing uniform daggers by officers was introduced in the Yugoslav Royal Army. Daggers became not only an element of the uniform but also a symbol of honor and belonging to the officer corps.
The marking OFICIRSKA ZADRUGA indicates supplies through closed officer associations, which centrally provided military personnel with uniform weapons. Such daggers were produced in limited series, and their preservation and authenticity today make them a rare collectible item from the World War II period. Originals with undamaged blades, clear markings, and preserved scabbard finishes are extremely rare.
