Dear Collectors and guests of the Antique Gallery website, looking for a gift, especially Antique weapons, we offer to your attention: Pistol with a capsule lock dated 18th century, converted from a flintlock, the lock is signed FROMERY A BERLIN, the pistol barrel is signed Lazaro Lazarino.

Antique European pistol with a capsule lock dated 18th century.
Here is an antique pistol made for the Eastern market by the manufacturer Peter Fromer, indicated by the hallmark on the pistol lock.
Judging by the pistol’s construction, it was later modified from flintlock to capsule lock.
The pistol has an octagonal barrel transitioning into a round shape, decorated with floral and geometric ornamentation, and the manufacturer’s name “Lazaro Lazarino.” The barrel also has a front sight and rear sight.

The pistol has a walnut grip with floral carving and a brass butt cap adorned with geometric and floral ornamentation. The sturdy butt cap allows using the pistol as a cold weapon for striking action after firing.
A brass medallion is inserted into the grip, featuring floral scrolls and made for the owner’s symbolic representation on the pistol.
The brass trigger guard has a pleasing semi-elliptical shape and is decorated with vegetative ornamentation and buds closer to the butt cap.
The wooden ramrod is a modern reconstruction. The spring on the firing lock has been restored.
Conclusion: The manufacturing technology, decorative style, and typological features define the presented specimen of firearms as a European pistol with a capsule lock, dated to the 18th century.
The presented version of the pistol was produced in Europe and could have been used both in Europe and for the Eastern market, such as the Ottoman Empire; similar types of pistols were used in these territories.
A pistol of the Eastern type at the end of the 18th century is a fairly rare specimen of firearms, quite popular among firearms collectors, and holds historical value as an artistic artifact and an example of shooting weapons of its time.

It is believed he was the grandson of Peter/Pierre Fromeri, a military craftsman at the court of Friedrich III in the late 17th century, according to the book “Der Neue Stockel: International Lexicon of Gunsmiths, Firearms and Crossbow Makers 1400-1900.”

“Lazaro Lazarino” was an Italian gunsmith working in the 16th century. He was known for his high-quality firearms, including muskets and pistols. Lazarino is considered one of the most outstanding masters of his time in Italy. He produced weapons for various clients, including important figures and royal individuals. We can assume that later, the name Lazaro Lazarino became a sign of quality on items made by his apprentices.
