Dear Collectors and guests of the site Antique Gallery, looking for a gift, in particular Antique weapons, your attention is invited to: Dirk assault squad SA, early model 1933, third Reich, manufacturer Carl Eickhorn.
✨ The SA Storm Troopers’ Dirk, an early example from 1933, is a significant artifact of the Third Reich that symbolized devotion to the ideals of the Nazi Party. Made by renowned German manufacturer Karl Eickhorn, this dirk is an example of high quality and craftsmanship. The dirk will be a valuable addition to a collection of antique weapons or historical artifacts, especially because of its unique history associated with the name of Ernst Röhm. ⚔️
The handle is wooden, brown in color, with strongly curved outlines. The upper part of the handle is curved downwards, conical in cross-section. The shank of the blade passes through it, on which a round nut is screwed on top. On the front side of the hilt on the top, on a triangular plane, there is a round enamel emblem “SA ” and in the center of the hilt there is an image of an eagle spreading its wings with a swastika in its claws.
The crossguard is an enlarged and inverted representation of the upper part of the hilt. At first, all metal parts of the hilt were made of polished cupronickel, and during the war, in order to reduce the cost, from cheaper metals and nickel-plated, on the lower part of the hilt there is an inscription.
On the reverse there is a branding “WF”, which indicates the distribution of SA-Gruppe Westfalen (SA Group Westphalia)
.
The blade is straight, double-edged, flat, rhombic, polished, smoothly tapering to the point. On the front side of the inscription in Gothic font “Alles fur Deutschland” – “All for Germany”, on the reverse side was the signature “ln herzlicher Freundschaft Ernst Rohm” (As a sign of cordial friendship Ernst Rohm), which was later erased by polishing the blade, under the cross – the branding of the manufacturer “Carl Eichorn Solingen”.
Scabbard is metal, painted in brown color. The scabbard device is metal, nickel-plated, fixed to the scabbard with four screws. It consists of a mouth and a tip with curved relief edges. There is a sliding ring on the mouth for attaching the lanyard strap.
The heel was not used.

SA (Sturmabteilung) dirks are among the most famous symbols of the early period of Nazi Germany. The SA played an important role in Hitler’s rise to power. This dirk, created in 1933, is one of the first examples used by members of the storm troopers to demonstrate their loyalty to the party and its ideals.
This dirk is especially valuable because of the inscription on the back of the blade: “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” (“In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm”). Ernst R öhm, one of the founders of the SA and a close associate of Hitler, later fell into disfavor and was executed in 1934 during the “Night of the Long Knives”. After his downfall, all SA dirks with this signature were polished to erase any mention of him.
The manufacturer Karl Eickhorn of Solingen was one of the most prestigious masters of edged weapons in Germany. The dirks made at this company were characterized by high quality materials and elegant design. The blade was often engraved with the slogan “Alles für Deutschland” (“All for Germany”), which emphasized the ideological meaning of this weapon.
The SA dirk, symbolizing loyalty and devotion, was an important part of the parade uniform of the members of the organization. It was used as an official accessory during party meetings, parades and other events. This item not only demonstrated the status of the wearer, but also served as an important propaganda element.
The SA storm troopers, founded in August 1921, were originally created to protect political leaders and guard mass events organized by the German National Socialist Workers’ Party(NSDAP). The majority of SA members were former soldiers and officers of the Kaiser’s army who were members of various voluntary military organizations. The decision to create the SA was made at the NSDAP congress in Munich in November 1921. The SA personal dirk was the first dagger officially approved by the party on December 15, 1933. Its design was based on the traditional 16th century Swiss hunting dagger “Holbein”. Initially, the scabbard was anodized and all metal trim on the hilt and scabbard was made of cupronickel. In later versions, the scabbard was coated with paint, and the finishing details were made of cheaper materials. At the end of 1934, SA daggers came under the quality control of the RZM (Reichzeugmeisterei), which was confirmed by the appropriate stamp. The RZM was responsible not only for supplying the Party organizations with appropriate equipment, but also for controlling the standardization and quality of products.
SA daggers with Ernst Röhm’s signature are particularly rare, and it is known that 9,800 award daggers with this inscription were made, but the number of SA daggers with the gift inscription remains unknown. After the “Night of the Long Knives”, when all the former SA leadership was destroyed, and Rem himself turned from an idol of the nation into an “enemy of the people”, the owners of these daggers hurried to remove the compromising inscription on the blade, fearing accusations of sympathizing with the deposed SA leader. In the specialized literature, SA daggers with Rem’s signature are divided into three types: with the inscription completely removed, partially removed, and completely removed. Daggers with an unremoved inscription are much rarer than the other two variants.
