Technical Description and Stamp Analysis

The Bebut was adopted by the Russian army in 1907 to replace sabers for the lower ranks of artillery in confined spaces (trenches, gun crews), where long-bladed weapons were impractical.
Blade and Markings
The blade is made of steel, with slight curvature, featuring two narrow grooves on each side.
Year and factory: The heel of the blade is clearly stamped with the mark “1916” and a fragment of the Zlatoust Arms Factory stamp (letters “ZLA T. OR. FAB.” in a circle).
Acceptance stamps: On the other side and the spine, inspection acceptance stamps are visible in the form of the letter “A” (under a crown) and “A”, confirming the passage of technical control at the factory before being sent to the front.
Grip and Scabbard
Grip: Made of wood, attached to the tang with two brass rivets. The upper rivet has a decorative brass overlay (rosette).
Scabbard: Wooden, covered with black leather. The scabbard fittings are brass, consisting of a throat and a tip with a ball at the end. A bracket for attaching a belt is located on the throat.

Historical Note

By 1916, the Bebut had become one of the most common types of cold weapons in the Tsarist Imperial Army during the height of World War I.
Combat Use: Although the Bebut was originally intended for artillerymen, its effectiveness in close combat led to it being issued to machine gunners, scouts, and even personnel of military police formations.
Condition: The presented specimen is in good collectible condition, with clear stamps and preserved original details of the grip and scabbard.
This Bebut is a classic example of Tsarist cold weapons from the Great War period and holds significant interest for collectors of domestic military antiques.
