Blade of the sword is steel, forged, of rhombic cross-section, smoothly tapering to the tip of the blade. There are two lobes on both sides of the blade. On the heel of the blade visually observed stamps, the so-called inspector’s marks. On the blade there is also an inscription in French with the year of issue.
Brass hilt with olive-shaped head. The connecting shackle is smooth, the crossbow ends in a socket. The handle is sheathed with double wire filigree. Guard cup with brass depiction of an ignited grenade.
Steel scabbard with a single clip, mouth and shoe. A movable ring is attached to the clip.

Model of 1884. The hilt is in the form of an olive with a large closing button. The connecting shackle is flat. Cup garda kidney-shaped with the image of an ignited grenade, and the flame is more compact than on the model of 1857 Blade with a double lobule and the inscription on the rim Mre D’ARMES DE CHATLI avril 1SS6. Epée de S.O. mie 1SS4 (Gunsmith of Chateley, April 1886. Non-commissioned officer’s sword, model 1884). The scabbard is iron with a portuguese ring. (M.R.).
